His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, Executive Governor of Ogun State, was the special guest of honour at the Remo International Youth Day 2024 that was planned, organized and sponsored by the Remo Growth and Development Foundation, (RemoGDF).
The International Youth Day is an awareness day designated by the United Nations that takes place on August 12 annually, bringing youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrating the potential of youths as partners in today’s global society.
The purpose of the day was to recognize the vital role young people play in fostering peace, democracy and sustainable development and to also draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth.
The first International Youth Day was observed on 12 August 2000.
The event was held on Monday, 12th August, 2024, at the Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu Remo, Ogun State.
The event was well planned and successfully hosted by the Remo Growth and Development Foundation under the coordinatorship of Mrs. Ronke Soyombo (Head, Education and Youth Empowerment, RemoGDF) and Dr. Opeyemi Agbato, (Head, Agriculture and Food Security Directorate, RemoGDF).
The leadership of Remo Youth Association leadership was also involved in the planning of the program.
The Chairman, Remo Growth and Development Foundation, (RemoGDF), Otunba Seni Adetu was represented by the 1st Vice Chairman, RemoGDF, Prince Wole Sowole who delivered a welcome address on behalf of the Foundation’s Chairman.
The event featured His Excellency’s Keynote address, goodwill messages, panel discussion, music, art exhibitions, presentations, comments, questions from the audience, and Oriki Remo Challenge.
Some notable Royal Fathers in attendance were Onirolu of Irolu; Odofin of Sonyindo, Legunsen of Ilupeju, Alado of Ado, Oselu of Okeselu, Negbuwa of Ibido, Ologijo of Ogijo, Ebi of Idena, Eleposo of Eposo, Aminisan of Oko, Radanuwa of Idado, Onilaye of Ilaye, Onigbepa of Igbepa, Alagura of Agura, Atawa of Latawa, Oniraniken of Iraniken, Ayanperuwa of Sotubo, Nloku of Iraye, Alariye of Ariye, Onimushin of Imushin, Alapeje of Apeje, amongst others.
Also in attendance were Members of RemoGDF, Remo Political Appointees, Coordinators, National Youth Council of Nigeria from the 3 LGAs (Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North), National Association of Remo Students, National Association of Polytechnic Students, Ogun State Students, Governor’s Advisory Council from Remoland, amongst others.
